Ramakrishna Mission carries out 42th voluntary cleaning at Capitanio & Derebail

Mangaluru, 23 Sep: Ramakrishna Mission carried out 42nd voluntary cleaning under 5th phase of Swacchata Abhiyan at Capitanio and Derebail locality, here on Sunday, September 22.

 

It was flagged-off jointly by Balakrishna Kottary, managing trustee, Suryanarayana temple, Maroli and Dr Rahul Thonse, dentist in front of Capitanio School.

 

Another drive was flagged-off in front of Derebail Church Hall by Fr Austin Peris and Belgian citizen, Anne Cardinal.

 

On this occasion, Srikanth Rao, Edward Coelho, Lizzy Fernandez, Vinay D’Souza, Vinaya Puja Raj, Nalini Bhat, Lokesh Kottar, Sujith Bhandary, Subhadra Bhat and others were present.

 

Captain Ganesh Karnik welcomed the dignitaries and volunteers. Augustine D’Almeida joined the Abhiyan enacting Mahatma Gandhi.

 

Speaking on this occasion, Sri Balakrishna Kottari said, ‘Cleanliness is the main foundation stone for Ramarajya as envisioned by Mahatma Gandhiji. Hence all of us should give prime importance to cleanliness. Opportunity given by Ramakrishna Mission to all the volunteers to do their mite for the nation is exemplary. If we can feel that this is no less significant than the service to God then this shramadan will be meaningful & more effective.’

 

Fr Austin Peris said at Derebail, ‘Cleanliness is symbolic of holiness. It signifies the presence of God. Each should understand this. It is easy to declare & initiate any project. But carrying it out in a sustained manner with dedication is extremely difficult and hence, the efforts of Ramakrishna Mission in this regard are laudable. Each house should segregate its waste and if every house can initiate wet waste composting by managing its own wet waste, then this Abhiyan becomes more meaningful.’

 

 

Voluntary Cleaning: After flagging off in front of Capitanio School, volunteers formed 6 teams and starting from Pumpwell identified 6 blackspots prone to be littered by public. All these spots, at Padil junction, Opposite Fortune Apartments, Near Nagori Amar Alva Bus Stand, on the road leading to Maroli Sooryanarayana Temple, Opposite Capitanio School and near Pumpwell circle were cleared off garbage and dirt and these spots were levelled and decorative flower plants were placed to dissuade the public from littering further. Pravin Shetty, Balakrishna Bhat, Umakanth Suvarna, Rajagopal Shetty, Himmat Singh, Avinash ANchan and many other volunteers took part in the Shramadan. Social activist Suraj and others removed unofficial hoardings & banners at Kankanady, Capitanio, Maroli, Pumpwell and nearby areas.

Cleanliness: Heaps of garbage lying near Derebail church were removed by Mehboob Khan and residents of Brigade Pinacle. Swacch Sena Team of Nitte Physiotherapy College cleaned the spot around a bus shelter near Kuntikana Flyover. The Christians brothers of Derebail church cleaned the road dividers. Fourth team of volunteers carried out cleanliness at Konchady area. NSS students of Besant Evening College also took part in the Abhiyan. Harish Prabhu, Mohan Kottary, Kiran Fernandez, Shubhoday Alva and many other senior volunteers guided the youngsters. Sudhir Noronha coordinated the drive.
