Udupi/M’Belle, 20 Sep: As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebration, Inter school Science Model  Competition was held in St. Lawrence PU College Hall on 20 September 2019.

 

The Inter school Science Model Competition was inaugurated by Dr. Ramesh Chimbalkar, Retired Head of the Department of Chemistry, Bhandarkar’s College, Kundapur who happens to be an old student of St. Lawrence High School way back in 1974-76. Fr. Jithesh Castelino, Assistant Parish priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle presided over the inaugural function. Other dignitaries on the dais included Balagangadhar Shetty, retired  science teacher from V.K.R. Acharya Memorial School, Kunjal who was the  resource person and one of the judges of the competition, Gerald Fernandes-president of PTA, Mrs. Sarojini Kamath-former teacher of St. Lawrence High School and one of the judges, Mrs. Jacintha Lobo-acrting Principal of St. Lawrence PU College and Mrs. Sunitha Kamath-Headmistress of St. Lawrence High School.

 

 

Following the inauguration of the Interschool Science Model Competition, Dr. Ramesh Chimbalkar in his address recalled his experience as a student in the school and encouraged the students to think scientifically and enrich themselves through participating not only in curricular burt also in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

 

In his presidential message, Fr. Jithesh Castelino appreciated the efforts of Mrs. Sunitha Kamath in organizing such activities such as Quiz and Science Model Competition on the occasion of the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of the school.

 

Mrs. Sunitha Kamath welcomed the guests, Valerian Crasta proposed the vote of thanks and Stany Menezes compeered the programme.

 

In his keynote address, Balagangadhar Shetty  said that every student has certain talent and they should recognize and promote such talents in order to achieve success in their lives. He also demonstrated some complex scientific principles through models.

 

Science Models from ten schools were displayed in the auditorium.

 

Milagres High School, Kallianpura secured the first place; U.S. Nayak High School, Patla secured second place; and Narayana Guru English Medium High School, Padubelle and Shanti Niketan High School, Alevoor jointly secured third place.

 

The Inter-school Science Model Competition was sponsored by Belle Ravindranath Rao, Bengaluru.
