Mangaluru, 18 Sep: The disaster preparedness should be ongoing as many super tankers carrying crude oil are arriving at all-weather New Mangalore Port, here to curb possible oil slicks in its jurisdiction at Arabian Sea, advised DK district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh.

DC Sindhu was speaking during inaugural of 2-day state level Symposium on pollution control and releasing DK district oil slick disaster management hand book that was held at Coastguard office, Panambur, here on Tuesday, September 17.

District Coastguard DIG S S Dasila said that coastguard will act as nodal agency in an event of oil slick.  It will act in 3-pronged ways, to control oil slick with top-notch preparedness that will be emphasized in this symposium, said Dasila.

Third coastguard district unit stationed in NMPT plays key role in coastal security with state-of—the-art equipments fitted to patrolling high-speed boats. It keeps 24x7 vigil in the sea for all human activities including fishing vessels, added Dasila.
