Udupi: Teachers’ Day Celebrated in St. Lawrence Educational Institutions, Moodubelle

Udupi/M’Belle, 06 Sep: Four institutions included in St. Lawrence Educational Institutions, Moodubelle-Church Aided Higher Primary School, St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, St. Lawrence PU College and St. Lawrence English medium High School jointly celebrated Teachers’ Day on Friday, 06 September at 10 am in St. Lawrence Parish Community Hall.

 

Veteran retired teacher from the Church Aided Higher Primary School, B. Sadananda Rao was the chief guest of the function. Ln. Ramesh Shetty, former student of the institution, presently Lions Zone Chairman was the guest of honour.

 

Stage programme commenced following the prayer song by St. Lawrence English medium High School and welcome dance by St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas-Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle, Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School and Correspondent of t. Lawrence Educational Institutions presided over the programme. Other dignitaries on the dais included: Fr. Jithesh Castelino-Assistant Parish Priest, B. Sadananda Rao, Ln. Ramesh Shetty, Devaraya Shanbhag-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Mrs. Sunitha Kamath-Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannadda Medium High School, Sr. Irene Viegas-Headmistress of Church Aided Higher Primary School and Gerald Fernandes-President of Parents-Teachers Association.

 

 

Following the introductory remarks and welcome by Gerald Fernandes, Glen Rebello, PU Student paid tribute to the teachers.

 

Teachers and non-teaching staff from all the institutions were honoured by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas by offering them roses and gift packets. Joseph Martis, member of PTA read the names of the teachers.

 

The chief guest of the function, B. Sadananda Rao was honoured for his long service in the Church Aided Higher Primary School and for the generous support to the institutions that his family has been rendering since a long time.

 

In his address, B,. Sadananda Rao expressed happiness to see his old students in the auditorium including Gerald Fernandes, Ln. Ramesh Shetty and Dr. Eugene D’Souza. He narrated the history of the origin and growth of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. He also pointed out the responsibilities and significance of teachers and students and elaborated the point by citing example from Mahabharatha, that  of Dronacharya as a teacher and Ekalavya as the student.

 

Ln. Ramesh Shetty recalled his days as a student in St. Lawrence Educational Institutions and said that he was fortunate to have had disciplinarian and dedicated teachers like B. Sadananda Rao who instilled a sense of discipline among the students which has helped him in building his own career and life successfully.

 

 

Prizes  were distributed to teachers from all the institutions who were victorious in various games that were conducted by students on the occasion of Teachers Day on 5 September 2019. Leeladhar Kamath and Mrs. Rovita Fernandes-members of PTA read the names of the winners.

 

In his presidential message, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas conveyed the greetings of Teachers’ Day to all the teachers and non-teaching staff of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. He complimented the heads of all the four institutions for their leadership and support.

 

Devaraya Shanbhag proposed the vote of thanks and Devdas Hebbar compeered the programme.

 

Students from each institution presented cultural porgrammes.

 

Mrs. Gladys Rebello anchored the cultural programme.
