Udupi: International Association of Lions Clubs, District 317C Celebrates Teachers’ Day

Udupi, 06 Sep: International Association of Lions Clubs, District 317C celebrated Teachers’ Day on Thursday, 05 September 2019 at Town Hall, Udupi at 7.30 pm. This event was sponsored by five Lions Clubs including: Lions Club of Brahmagiri, Lions Club of Moodubelle, Lions Club of Parkala, Lions Club Udupi Chetana and Lions Club Udupi Mid-town.
The Teachers’ Day function was presided over by Ln. V.G. Shetty, pmjf, Governor of Lions District 317C.
The chief guest of the programme was Kudi Vasanth Shetty, National Best Teacher Awardee.
Following the welcome address by Ln. George Samuel,mjf-District Cabinet Secretary, Ln. Governor V.G. Shetty and other dignitaries on the dais inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and showering flower petals on the portrait of Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan on whose birthday teacehrs’ day is being celebrated throughout India every year.
In his inaugural address, Ln. V.G. Shetty narrated the importance of the Lions Clubs International and stressed on the various service activities that are being conducted by the Lions Clubs. Speaking on the background of celebrating the Teachers’ Day, Ln. V.G. Shetty highlighted the significance of teachers in everyone’s life by citing many examples from the Puranas and the Mahabharatha.
The chief guest Kudi Vasanth Shetty was introduced by Ln. Basruru Rajeev Shetty, former District Governor.
In his key-note address, Kudi Vasanth Shetty spoke on the the role of parents and teachers in educating children. He said that there are two types of education-indirect and direct. While parents provide direct education to their children, teachers provide indirect education. It is the responsibility of the parents to provided the basic and natural education while the teachers provide knowledge and other skills to them. He further said that it is easier for a teacher to shape the future of the students when they come across those children brought up by responsible parents.
Sixteen teachers chosen by five Lions Clubs sponsoring the Teachers’ Day celebration were honoured by Ln. V.G. Shetty and other dignitaries on the dais.
Four teachers from Moodubelle nominated by the Lions Club of Moodubelle were felicitated on this occasion. They included; Mrs. Theresa D’Sa, Mrs. Lilly Lobo, Mrs. Leena D’Sa and Mrs. Shalet D’Souza. Ln. Elias D’Souza, Secretary of the Lions Club of Moodubelle introduced these teachers.
On behalf of the honoured teachers, Nagesh Rao and Mrs. Lilly Lobo conveyed their thanks to the International Association of Lions Clubs, District 317C, especially Governor Ln. V.G. Shetty for the honour bestowed on them.
On this occasion, the chief guest Kudi Vasanth Shetty and Ln. Chandrashekhar Shetty, the Best Teacher Awardee of Udupi District this year were also felicitated.
Ln. Denis Martis-President of the Lions Club, Moodubelle, Secretary,Ln. Elias D’Souza, Treasurer Ln. Joseph Martis were present on this occasion.
