Bantwal reels under floods as Netravathi flows above danger mark

Bantwal, 10 Aug: Entire Bantwal taluk is flooded due to incessant rains that have been continuing even Saturday morning. Water level in Netravathi river is constantly rising and the river is flowing above danger mark.
Several houses are submerged in water and over 1000 people are displaced by the heavy rains. Several affected people are at the Ganji Kendras opened at the Inspection Bungalow and Sharada High School of Panemangalore.
Water has gushed into the house of senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary at Bhandaribettu. Poojary and other members of his family have been shifted to a safer location. Rain water has flooded the basement of the Bantwal Buntara Bhavan, Diamond School and Sparsha Kala Mandir of BC Road.
The Talapady service road too is flooded and vehicular movement has been suspended.
Water level at Netravathi is now around 11 meters well above the danger level of 8.5 meters. Power supply has also been disrupted in the taluk.
Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, Tahsildar Rashmi S R, Assistant Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak and other personnel including NDRF, Home Guards, Coast Guards assisted in relief operations throughout the night and rescued those in danger.
Water is being released through 26 gates from Shambhur AMR dam. In Thumbay water level has reached 8.5 meters.
Farangipete, Brahmarakootlu, Ajilamogaru, and other places too are severely affected by floods.
