Heavy rains in coast – ‘Red Alert’ issued in DK on Aug 7 and 8

Mangaluru, 06 Aug: Deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Tuesday, August 6 declared ‘Red Alert’ in the Dakshina Kannada (DK) district for next two days, August 7 and 8, owing to the heavy rains that have lashed coastal Karnataka.

 

According to a press release from Meteorological department, Bengaluru, thunderstorm with moderate to heavy spells of rain and strong winds are expected to hit the district. Hence, a ‘red Alert’ is issued for in the district for August 7 and 8.

 

 

Senthil, who also urged residents to stay safe and asked them to inform the authorities in case of any emergency, also added that holiday for schools has not been declared yet.

 

The decision on holiday for schools and colleges will be taken once the district administration receives weather report from the Meteorological department in the evening.

 

He also said, "Total of 656 suspected dengue cases have been reported, in which 202 are admitted with 140 suspected dengue cases in the last four days. Our prime focus is to destroy larvae. Rs 4.5 lac fine has been collected from educational institution in 20 cases.

 

“A mobile app will be launched for legal cattle transport so that transporters can give prior information to the officials to make safe transportation of cattle. ‘Livestock Logistic’ is the name of the app. In order to maintain harmony, action has been taken against 89 rowdy elements,” he said.
