Mangaluru: Sunday Catechism Classes Inaugurated in Holy Cross Church, Kulshekar

Mangaluru, 09 Jun: Sunday Catechism classes were inaugurated in Holy Cross Church, Kulshekar on Pentecost Sunday, 9 June 2019 at 9.30am mass. The Pentecostal Feast mass was concelebrated by Fr. Victor Machado, Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Kulshekar as the chief celebrant along with Fr. Lawrence Cutinha-Assistant Parish Priest, Fr. Ashwin Cardoza-Resident Priest and Fr. Maxim D’Souza-Professor in St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mangaluru.
In his homily, Fr. Victor Machado highlighted significance of the Pentecost Sunday when Holy Spirit descended on Mother Mary and Apostles. He pointed out the nine characteristics of the Holy Spirit and said that Pentecost Sunday marked the birth of the church.
As part of the inauguration of Catechism classes, special prayers were offered for the children. The catechism teachers were administered the oath as teachers of catechism classes.
Catechism teachers animated the liturgy of the day and also participated in the offertory.
The Sunday Catechism classes were formally inaugurated by the teachers, parents, Vice President Loy Noronha and Secretary Santurnin Monteiro of the Parish Pastoral Council, Convener of Small Christian Communities Dolphy D’Souza, Representatices of Parents Mrs. Shobha Rebello and Stany rebello and Represetnatives of Stuents Priston and Melony coming in procession into the church with saplings and placing them in front of the altar. Fr. Victor Machado carried the Holy Bible through the procession and placed it on the altar.
The children were asked a number of questions on various aspects of the Bible and prizes were distributed to the winners.
There are 20 divisions of Catechism classes covering around 800 students. Twenty five catechism teachers will be conducting these Sunday classes. Fr. Lawrence Cutinha is in-charge of the catechism classes and Glanny Fernandes is the Convener.
