Udupi/M’Belle: New Academic Year 2019-20 of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions Inaugurated

Udupi/M’Belle, 1 June 2019: The new academic year 2019-20, of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions, Moodubelle was inaugurated on 1 June 2019 at 10 am in the air-conditioned St. Lawrence Parish Community Hall. The inaugural function was presided over by Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza, Parish Priest of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur and Secretary of Catholic Education Society, Udupi(CESU). Commodore Jerome Castelino (VSM), retired Naval Officer was the chief guest. Other dignitaries on the dais included: Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions and Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Vincent Fernandes-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Devaraya Shanbagh-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Naveen Correa-former Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Mrs. Maria Barboza-former headmistress of St. Lawrence EM High School, Mrs. Sunith Kamath-Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and Sr. Irene Viegas-Headmistress of Church Aided Higher Primary School.
Following the welcomed address by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Commodore Jerome Castelino along with other dignitaries on the dais formally inaugurated the new academic year 2019-20 by lighting the lamp.
New students to the educational institutions were welcomed by senior students by offering each representative a rose flower. Seventh standard students welcomed first standard students. Tenth standard students welcomed eighth standard students and second year Pu students welcomed first year PU students.
Results of Second Year PU as well as SSLC examinations of both English and Kannada medium high schools were analyzed by their respective teachers.
Second Year PU as well as SSLC students who had scored distinction marks in the Board Examinations held in March 2019 were felicitated by Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza, Commodore Jerome Castelino and Fr. Clement Mascarenhas.
On this occasion, Naveen Correa who had served St. Lawrence PU College for three years as Principal and Mrs. Maria Barboza who was headmistress of St. Lawrence English Medium High School for one year were honoured by the dignitaries on the dais.
The new Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Devaraya Shanbagh as well as the new Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas were felicitated by Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza by offering them flower bouquets.
Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza, Secretary of CESU was also honoured on this occasion.
In his message, the chief guest of the function, Commodore Jerome Castelino said that the students start their new academic year with great hope and expectations in their academic life. Similarly, their parents also have great aspirations for their children. He assured that St. Lawrence Educational Institutions would fulfill all their hopes and aspirations provided all the students have clear aim and work to achieve that aim with hard work, dedication and discipline. Commodore Jerome Castelino highlighted the responsibilities of the teachers under whose care the students spend most of their time.
In his presidential address, Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza appreciated the custom of senior students welcoming the new students to the educational institutions. He congratulated the students for their excellent performance in the examinations held in March 2019 and applauded the distinction holders who were felicitated earlier. While whishing all the students a happy and successful new academic year 2019-20, Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza said that there is no short cut to success. Only through discipline and dedication one can achieve success in life. He made an appeal to the students to utilize the facilities provided by the educational institutions and make best use of their time in building up their academic career.
