Mangaluru, 01 Jun: Dr Ronald Serrao, rector of St Joseph Inter-Diocesan Seminary, Jeppu, here inaugurated 13-day novenas in preparation for the annual feast of St Anthony by hoisting St Anthony’s flag and garlanding the statue of St Anthony at St Anthony’s Ashram Jeppu, here on Friday, May 31.
In his message, Fr Serrao said that St Anthony was born in Lisbon of Portugal but he served in Padua of Italy. There are two things the devotees of St Anthony should pick from the life of St Anthony, that is importance to the Word of God. Saint Anthony preached the Word of God and thus inspired many people to live a holy life. Secondly he performed many miracles. Through these miracles he reached to the people in need. As devotees of Saint Anthony we too need to practice these virtues, he said.
Later, Dr Serrao celebrated the Holy Mass for the intention of youth and preached a homily at 12.00pm.
The annual feast of St Anthony will be celebrated on June 13.
Fr Onil D’Souza, the director of the Institutes recited St Anthony’s chaplet with the rosary. Fr Thrishan D’Souza, assistant director conducted the novena. Fr Roshan D’Souza was present on the occasion.
A large number of devotees participated in the devotion.
