Mangaluru: RTA to take strict action on auto rickshaws ferrying school children above limit

Mangaluru, 18 May: Dakshina Kannada DC Sasikant Sentil convened a meeting of officials of RTA, KSRTC and labor union, at the district headquarters here on Friday, May 17, on the issue of transporting laborers in goods vehicles.
DC Sasikant advised RTA officials to instruct industries to avail contract carriage facility of KSRTC buses, if they have no proper transport services as there are many industries in DK district.
Palayya, the revenue commissioner from Bengaluru said that the laborers are being transported in trucks and tractors in a few districts of Karnataka. Meanwhile, he urged the education department, RTA, law enforcement agencies and related department to create peoples awareness on the dignity of laborers.
DC Sasikant said that since DK district has efficient private bus services; the laborers have no difficulty to reach their work places. The women working in garment industries especially in Hassan and Chikmagaluru districts are facing the transport difficulties due to far-flung work place. He advised the department officials to resolve the issue.
DK district RTO Jchn Misquith said that numerous complaints are being received by them on transporting more school children in auto rickshaws to and from school and pickup points. The department will take appropriate action in this regard. The transport difficulty for laborers is not found. If the women laborers working in cashew factories face transport difficulty they will be dealt with.
Hassan deputy labor commissioner Venkatesh A Shindikatte, Mangaluru assistant commissioner K B Nagaraj, Chikmagaluru assistant commissioner Johnson K J, BMS president Vishwanat Shetty, HMS president Rafiq, CITU president Vasant Poojary, division traffic controllers of KSRTC, officials of district police were present.
