Bantwal: BSNL contract laborers to boycott voting in Lok Sabha polls over unpaid wages

Bantwal, 03 Apr: The contract laborers working with BSNL telephone exchange across Bantwal taluk boycotted to vote in the upcoming general elections over unpaid wages since 6 months by BSNL.
Addressing the media persons here on Monday, April 1, BSNL taluk contract laborer Mohammed Hanif said that contract laborers are working in BSNL exchanges across Bantwal taluk since 20 years. Their wages are unpaid since October 2018 to March 2019, said Hanif.
The laborers families are reeling under distress since they have no money to pay rents for their dwelling quarters, water bill and electricity bill and to buy essential foods to sustain their families. Despite they have staged protest in front BSNL headquarter in Mangaluru and submitting their memorandum to concerned officials, forwarding their pleas to PM, MP, ministers, contractor and labor commissioner, all gone in vain, added Hanif.
There are 580 contract laborers working in BSNL across Dakshina Kannada district.
The contract laborers Yashodar, Honnayya, Sunil and Manohar were present at the press meet.
