Mangaluru: Odia community celebrates Utkal Divas, to mark historical event

Mangaluru, 03 Apr: The Mangaluru Odia Cultural Association (MOCA) organized Utkal Divas Celebration at Sujir C V Naik Hall, near Bunts Hostel, here on Monday, April 1 at 6.30pm. The Day was celebrated to mark the formation of the Odisha state as a separate province on April 1, 1936.

 

Mrutyunjay Mahapatra, managing director and CEO of Syndicate Bank was the chief guest.

 

Speaking on the occasion, he said that he was happy to participate in the Odia cultural programme in city. He urged the community to serve the society assimilating the synergetic Jagannath culture.

 

 

Birupaksha Mishra, executive director, Corporation Bank, corporate office, Mangaluru was the guest of honor. He said that Odia culture is very old, rich and colourful. He was happy to see the participation of young kids in presenting Odisha cultural events.

 

Dr K Mohan Pai, cardiologist and president, GSB Seva Sangh said, ‘He is fond of Odia culture.’ He also said about great poet Jayadeva and shared excellent experience of his visit to Jagannath Temple, Puri during Navakalevara function.

 

Gaurang Swain, chief finance officer, Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Mangaluru, exemplified  the great architecture of Konark and Silver works of Cuttack.

 

MOCA general secretary Dr Umasankar Mohanty, president, Manual Therapy Foundation of India said about the social aim and objective of MOCA and invited all the Odia people in the region to collaborate to serve across the world and make our culture and heritage proud.

 

MOCA president Dr Ramesh Chandra Sahoo, Professor Emeritus, Manipal University said, ‘He was Happy to be part of Jagannath Rath Yatra of ISKCON since so many years, appreciated participation of children in the programme.’

 

MOCA treasurer Sarbeswar Malla, service engineer, Air India, Mangaluru thanked the guests, invitees, media and press.

 

MOCA cultural secretary Kalyani Mohanty, lecturer of physics, Canara PU College compered the programme.

 

Sushant Mahapatra, senior manager (finance), MRPL; Shantanu Kumar Das, DGM (Company Secretary), Corporation Bank, Corporate office; Subrata Kumar Das, manager, The New Indian Express, Mangaluru and Dr Kausalya Sahoo, Professor of Pathology, KMC, Mangaluru were present.

 

MOCA distributed fruits to elderly and patients at Mangalore Healthcare Centre, here on Monday morning.

 

In the city of Mangaluru, several Odia people work in all major sectors in hospitals, banks, NMPT, MRPL, railways, medical colleges and edu institutions.

 

In Mangaluru Utkal Divas celebrations nearly 120 families comprising of 300 members people participated in the event.
