IGNITO - Organized by ICYM Udupi Deanery at St Antony’s Church Kuntalnagar

Udupi: 11 Mar: IGNITO an inter parish youth program was organized by the ICYM Udupi Deanery at St. Antony’s Church Kuntalnagar. Quiz, treasure hunt and dodge ball competition and road safety awareness program was arranged for the youth of the Udupi Deanery on 10 March 2019 at 2.30pm.

 

Fr.Lawrence Cutinha, Assistant Parish Priest of St.Lawrence Church, Moodubelle and ICYM Director Udupi Deanery welcomed the youths for the quiz competition. Fr. Wilson D’Souza, Parish Priest, St Antony Church Kuntalnagar led the teams with prayer and wished all sucess.

 

The program commenced at 2.30 pm with a quiz competition. Fr. Jaison Pais (OFM Cap) of Assisi Nilaya, Moodubelle was the quiz master.  The youths from Katapadi, Udyavara, Kalmadi, Perampalli, Moodubelle, Kuntalnagar and Udupi participated in the quiz. Each team had 10 participants. The quiz  covered topics from Bible, knowledge about saints, general knowledge from sports, politics, business and entertainment. The First place was bagged by Udyavar Unit, Second place by Kalmadi and the third place by Kuntalnagar Units.

 

 

After the Quiz Competition, the formal program was presided by Fr.Valerian Mendonca, Parish Priest of Mother of Sorrows Church and the Dean of Udupi Deanery. Vilton D’Souza,  ICYM deanery president welcomed all the dignitaries. Fr. Valerian Mendonca appreciated the youths for coming together and participating in the various activities. He also briefed about the importance of Road Safety awareness which was the talk that was organized specially for the youth. He congratulated the ICYM unit of Udupi deanery and also the lead taken by the ICYM Kuntalnagar Unit in hosting the event. Fr. Valerian Mendonca gave the prizes for the winners of the Quiz.

 

The resource person for the event was Mr. Ganesh Naik, Assistant Investigation Officer from Kaup police station. He briefed about the road safety measures and how every individual can be a responsible in following road safety measures. He highlighted the importance of driving licenses, vehicle registration and insurance documents  that every vehicle owner and driver should possess. He emphasized on the deviations that happen and how one becomes victims of accidents. The session was interactive with questions raised by the youths.

 

The winners of dodge ball competition were: First place ICYM Katpadi Unit, second place was secured by Kalmadi unit. The treasure hunt game winners were from Moodubelle Unit.

 

Fr. Edwin D’Souza, Diocese Director of Youth Commission, Dion Dsouza President of Youth commission, Udupi Diocese, Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, ICYM Director Udupi Deanery, Fr. Wilson Dsouza, Parish Priest Kuntalnagar, Fr. Ronson, Parish Priest of Katapadi, Vilton D’Souza, President ICYM Udupi Deanery, Vincent D’Souza, Vice President, St. Antony Church, Kuntalnagar,  Eden D’Souza ICYM president, Kuntalnagar and Monthu D’Souza, ICYM Animator Kuntalnagar were also present for the program.

 

Eden D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks and Ms. Teena Mendonca compered the program. At the end of the program the youth enjoyed the kite flying. A total of 137 youth participated from 8 parishes of Udupi Deanery. The entire event was hosted by ICYM unit of St Antony’s Church Kuntalnagar, Udupi.
