Mumbai: Awards humbles recipient – Jayant Kaikini

Mumbai, 18 Feb: Havyaka Welfare Trust Mumbai® conferred the coveted Karki Venkataramana Shastry Suri Prashasti to renowned Kannada litterateur and poet Jayant Kaikini, during the function held at Havyaka auditorium, Ghatkopar (West), here on Sunday, February 17.  The award function was held in collaboration with Karnataka Malla, Kannada daily published from Mumbai.

 

Kaikini after receiving the award said, ‘My native Gokarna and Havyaka community that is so secular nurtured my talent in penning literature and poems. Meanwhile, Mumbai – the land of opportunities and diversity rekindled my sense of viewing the everyday incidents to shape poetry and literature. The award indeed humbles the bearer, while the new generation of litterateurs are longing for awards. The talent is to foster human values that is supreme,’ said Kaikini.

 

Dr Nagaraj Huyilagola, renowned oncologist of Nanavati Hospital, here was the chief guest said that Jayant Kaikini’s literature has been translated into English for global readers. His art of getting deeper into the characters of everyday living in Mumbai is significant, said Dr Nagaraj.

 

 

Karnataka Malla chief editor Chandrashekar Palettady was the guest of honour who congratulated Jayant and Smita Kaikini couple, son Pratwik.

 

In his presidential address, Havyaka Welfare Trust Mumbai® president Shivakumar said that their association that is engaging in helping the community in pursuing higher education, cultural pursuit and social welfare activities also committed to honour talent of their community.

 

Kala Bhagwat read the citation letter. The advocate Amita S Bhagwat, editor of Havyaka Sandesha, monthly bulletin of Trust, honorary general secretary Narayan R Akadas was present.  

 

Prayers were offered to pay tributes to martyrs of Pulwama attack.

 

Kavya Bhaghwat rendered prayers. Tanuja Hegde welcomed the gathering. Karnataka Malla sub-editor Srinivas Jokatte delivered the preliminary address. Poornima Akadasa introduced the dignitaries. Sasikala Hegde compered the programme.
