Mangaluru, 22 Jan: Ambiga Chowdayya was a psalmist who tried to reform the society that is marred with injustice, casteism, superstition and unreligious practices during his lifetime, said DK district Ka Sa Pa president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura.
Kalkura was speaking after inaugurating Ambiga Chowdayya Jayanti celebration that was jointly organized by ZP, Kannada and culture department of DK district and Mogaveera Ambiga Chowdayya Samaj Seva Sangh – Mulky at St Aloysius Primary School, here, on Monday, January 21.
We ought to emulate the teachings of Ambiga Chowdayya who tried to reform the society through psalms, said Kalkura.
Akashwani – Mangaluru programme executive officer Dr B M Sharabendraswamy said, Ambiga Chowdayya was a devotee of Lord Shiva and a psalmist lived in 12th century AD. He is a distinct psalmist among others who was a boatman by profession but a genius who expressed his lifetime experience in psalms. He tried to reform the society against injustice, superstition to create just society.
Kannada and culture department assistant director Rajesh Naik, Mangaluru Tahsildar T J Guruprasad, Mogaveera Vyavastapaka Mandali vice president Keshava Salian, principal Philomena and others were present.
