Mangaluru, 14 Jan: Father Muller School and College of Nursing, organized Ignite 2K19 Burst into Flame, Annual Athletic Meet at Father Muller Stadium, here on Saturday, January 12.

Venizeia Annie Carlo, National sub-junior power lifter was the chief guest and inaugurated the athletic meet open by hoisting the flag and releasing the balloons.

Speaking on the occasion, Venizeia said applauded the initiative taken by the department in organising the event which particularly reminds the students that college life isn’t just about academics, but something way beyond. ‘Sport is a part of your college life. Your venture into sports should not stop when you leave the college. When today’s youth seem to be engrossed in social media, we need to strike a balance between academic life and social life,’ said Venizeia.

‘You should feel the fresh air as you kick a football and savour the saltiness of your sweat as you make the three-pointer shot in basketball. Look for opportunities and learn something new. Along with your academics give importance to extracurricular activities. Learn with an open mind, work productively and get into sports to ensure an overall holistic growth,’ she added.

Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) presided the programme and said, ‘Playing sports is a great way to relieve stress induced by various factors like education, mobiles etc. It helps one to gain a sound mind and a healthy body. Today’s generation involves themselves more in indoor activities. Young students need to exercise, remain healthy and have a stress free life.’  He stressed the need of having healthy competition in all spheres of life. ‘Real sportsmanship involves in playing a game fairly and accepting everything that befalls on the line,’ he said.
