Udupi/M’Belle: Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha of Mangalore Concelebrates Annual Feast Mass

Udupi/M’Belle, 02 Jan: Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese was the chief celebrant of the Annual Feast Mass of St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle on Wednesday, 2 January 2019. Around 20 priests including Fr. Valerian Mendonca-Parish Priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi and dean of Udupi Deanery, Fr. Stany Tauro-Parish Priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Kundapur and Dean of Kundapur Deanery, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas-Parish Priest of Moduelle, Fr. Lawrence Cutinha-Assistant Parish Priest participated in the concelebration of the festal mass.

 

Prior to the commencement of the solemn feast mass, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas distributed candles of honour to various office bearers of the church associations including Finance Committee, Parish Pastoral Council, Gurkars and others at 10 am. The list was read by Mrs. Latha D’Mello, Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council.

 

The solemn feast mass  commenced with the procession of the altar servers and priests from the Presbytery to the church accompanied by the brass band.

 

In his homily, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha said that when one thinks of the life of St. Lawrence he or she is reminded of the poor. St. Lawrence served the poor who were considered as the wealth of the church. Poor people keep faith in God for their daily sustenance. They have both faith and hope in God. A person without faith loses hope and  becomes desperate in life. Referring to the poor, the Bishop said that it not only those who do not have wealth are poor, but also those who have lost hope in life are poor. Thus, faith, love and hope are the essential aspects in one’s life.

 

 

At the end of the feast mass, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha distributed candles to the sponsors.

 

Fr. Clement Mascarenhas conveyed the greetings of the annual feast to all parishioners and thanked Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha, Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Fr. Stanuy Tauro and other priests from Udupi Deanery and other priests for their participation in the concelebration of the annual feast mass. He also thanked all those who have been rendering their service in the church and other institutions of the parish.

 

On behalf of the Udupi deanery, Fr. Valerian Mendonca conveyed his compliments to all the parishioners and Fr. Clement Mascarenhas on the occasion of the annual feast. 

 

Bishop Peter Paul Saldnaha recalled his service in St. Lawrence Parish  as the Assistant Parish Priest and said that there has been a lot of development in and around the church premises. This was because of the generosity of the parishioners of Moodubelle.
