Udupi: Meritorious Students Honoured with ‘Pratibha Puraskar’ in St. Lawrence Composite PU College

Udupi/M’Belle, 08 Dec: Meritorious students of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle were honoured with ‘Pratibha Puraskar’ for their achievement  in academics, sports, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities on Saturday, 8 December 2018 at a function held in St. Lawrence PU College Hall at 10 am. The function was presided over by Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, Assistant Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle. Dr. Vincent Alva, Principal of Milagres College, Kallianpur was the chief guest. Other dignitaries on the dais included: Ms. Sarita Lavina D’Souza, an old student of the institution  who was felicitated for securing Eighth Rank in M.Com. Examination held in April 2018, Naveen Correa-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Mrs. Sunitha Kamath-Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, Maxim D’Sa-President of Old Stunts Association, Santosh-PU College Student Leader and Grecian Sequeira-School Pupil Leader.

 

Following the welcome address by Mrs. Sunitha Kamath, the report of activities and achievements of the institution  during the academic year 2018-19 was read by Principal Naveen Correa.

 

Prizes to meritorious students of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School were distributed by the dignitaries on the dais. John Castelino read the list of meritorious students in academics and co- curricular  and extra-curricular activities. Valerian Crasta read the list of the students who had won prizes in sports activities.

 

The list of the meritorious students of PU College students in academics was read by Devaraya Shanbaugh and the list of students who won prizes in sports  was read by Joseph D’Souza.

 

 

On this occasion Ms. Sarita Lavina D’Souza, an old student of the institution who had secured Eight Rank in M.Com. Examinations held in April 2018 was honoured by the dignitaries on the dais.

 

Addressing the students, Ms. Sarita said that she could achieve such a success due to her hard work and determination to succeed. She further said that attending all the classes, taking sown proper notes and day to day study are important to master a subject and  to face examinations. She made an appeal to the students to take education seriously and achieve success in life.

 

In his message, Dr. Vincent Alva compared modern education with that of traditional education. He said that in modern times students have various avenues to gain knowledge such as computers, internet and Google by which a lot of knowledge can be gathered. However, there is a lot of difference between such knowledge and knowledge and values gained through studies in classes an knowledge imparted by teachers. One cannot learn discipline and good values through Google, but through the examples of teachers.

 

In his presidential address, Fr. Lawrence Cutinha congratulated the students for their success in various fields and made an appeal to them to put in hard work in studies and other related activities such as sports and co-curricular activities.

 

Herald D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Kumari rashmi, Maths lecturer compeered the stage programme.

 

Soon after the stage function, students of both high achool and PU College presented cultural programmes.

 

Reema Mathias of Second Year PU Science and Varadaraj of Tenth Standard anchored the cultural programme.
