Bantwal: Literature is not domain of select few – Prof Tukaram Poojary

Bantwal, 08 Dec: ‘Literature is not limited to any specific caste, religion and tribe. It’s the knowledge that has no boundaries,’ said Prof Tukaram Poojary, chairman of Bantwal taluk 19th Kannada Sahitya Sammelan.
Prof Tukaram was delivering presidential address during 2-day Bantwal taluk 19th Kannada Sahitya Sammelan at Dr F H Odeyar stage, Sevanjali auditorium, Farangipet, here, on Friday, December 7.
‘Literature is bridge that enhances human relations including culture and traditions,’ said Prof Tukaram. Literature aims at promoting jest for living. Meanwhile, the true litterateurs are the one who capture the sufferings/joys of people in their midst, he added.
‘Kannada or any language will not survive unless we change our apathy towards our state language. English is necessary to keep abreast with knowledge; but disregarding Kannada is unfair,’ he said.
In his inaugural address, former MLA and intellectual Dr Y S Datta said, ‘When compared to Kannada, Tulu should have got the classical status first because it has long history. It has not got the status due to lack of script, said Dr Datta.
The Sammelan former chairman and veteran scholar Dr Padekal Vishnu Bhat, ZP member Chandraprakash Shetty Thumbay, Bantwal Bar Association president Deepak Kumar Jain, Sevanjali Trust chairman Arkulabeedu Vajranat Shetty, entrepreneurs B Jagannat Chowta and F Mohammed Bawa, Thumbay College correspondent Basti Vaman Shetty, BEO Shivaprakash, Pudu gram panchayat president Ramlan, reception Committee president K N Gangadhar Alva, Ka Sa Pa past president Jayanand Peraje, Ka Sa Pa taluk honorary secretary Dr Nagaveni Manchi and others were present.
