Karkala: Miyar, Karakala Town and Ajekar Units of Stree Sanghattan win Deanery level Skit Competitio

Karkala, 23 Nov: In a well contested Karkala Deanery level skit competition, Miyar Unit of Stree Sanghattan emerged as overall champions where as Karkala Town and Ajekar Units secured second and third place respective. The competition was held in Christ the King Church Hall, Karkala on Friday, 23 November 2018 from 10 am to 1 pm. Mrs. Clara Mendonca from Shankerpura (Pangala) and Dr. Eugene Dsouza from Moodubelle were the judges.

 

Prior to the competition, presidents of Catholic Stree Sanghttan Units of nine parishes: Ajekar, Attur-Karkala, Hirgan, Karkala Town, Kanajar, Kera, Miyar, Nakre and Parappadi  that included in the Karkala Deanery inaugurated the skit competition by bursting the balloons tied to a string in front of the stage. Thereafter, Fr. Jasson D’Souza, Spiritual Director of Stree Sanghttan of Karkala Deanery read the rules of the competition. Each unit was given ten minutes to present their skit. The overall theme was the traditional families Vs the modern families. 

 

It goes to the credit of all the units of Stree Sanghttan of Karkala Deanery that they presented their skits with full preparation and dedication. Themes of the skits varied from the relationship of mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in the traditional as well as modern family, status of women in both traditional and modern families and importance of education. 

 

 

Following the end of the competition a brief  stage programme was conducted that was presided over by Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Parish Priest of Christ the King Church and Dean of Karkala Varado. Other dignitaries on the dais included: Fr. Jasson D’Souza-Spritiual Director of Stree sanghtaan, Karkala  Deanery, Mrs. Jannet Barboza-President of Diocesan Stree Sanghattan, Sr. Jannet Feernandes-Animator of Stree Sanghattan, Udupi Diocese, Mrs. Valeeria Cutinha-President of Karkala Deanery Stree Sanghattan, Mrs. Florine D’Souza-Secretary, Sr. Priya-Animator of Karkala Deanery and Mrs. Gracia D’Souza-former President of  Karkala Deanery.

 

The stage programme was preceded by prayer service conducted by the members of the Stree Sanghattan.

 

Following the welcome address by Mrs. Valeria Cutinha, Mrs. Clara Mendonca, one of the judges of the competition in her impression on the presentation said that all the units had performed to the best of their abilities and each and every unit deserves applause from the audience. However, as per the norms of the competition first three places were decided on the basis of the points that they secured. 

 

Fr. Jasson D’Souza in his brief message expressed happiness over the successful conduct of the competition.

 

The donors who had contributed towards the conduct of the Deanery level Skit Competition were honoured by Mrs. Jannet Barboza.

 

In his presidential address, Fr. Joswey Fernandes appreciated the efforts of all the office bearers of Stree Sanghattan in organizing such as meaningful skit competition that reflected the traditional way of life of our community and the changes that have been occurring due to modernization. He further said that the women of our community have joined together through Stree sanghattan and Self-help Groups and have strengthened themselves through economic and financial empowerment. They have also realized the need to avail government facilities. Women are no longer confined to the  four wall of the house, but have come out to participate in social and political activities. He wished all the women well and congratulated them for their success.

 

 

Mrs. Jannet Barboza in her brief message appreciated the efforts of the Stree Sanghattan of Karkala Deanery and as a token of appreciation on behalf of the Central Committee handed over a memento to the office bearers of the Karkala Deanery.

 

The list of the winners in the competition was read out by Mrs. Clara Mendnca, one of the two judges. The Ajekar Unit secured the third position; Karkala Town got the second place and Miyar Unit was declared as the overall champion of the skit competition. Fr. Joswey Feernandes gave away the prizes for the first three winners.

 

As a mark of appreciation for their efforts, the remaining six units were awarded with consolation prizes which were distributed by Fr. Jasson D’Souza. 

 

Mrs. Florine D’Souza-Secretary of  Stree Sanghattan Karkala Deanery proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Reshma Rodrigues, from Ajekar compeered the programme.
