Mangalore: Nitte Deemed University celebrates World Yoga Day

Mangaluru, 22 Jun 2018: ‘Yoga- the culmination of Indian culture and spirituality should be a way of life rather than a one day celebration. We should practice yoga regularly to bring in rhythm in life to counter the chaos around us. It should not be just a day, but a way of life,’ said Professor Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, vice chancellor, Nitte Deemed to be University.

 

He spoke on the benefits of yoga and how we need to inculcate yoga practice in our life during the celebration of International Yoga Day at Nitte Deemed to be University, Deralakatte, Mangaluru organised by NSS Nitte wing on June 21 at 7.00am.

 

 

Professor Dr Iddya Karunasagar, senior director, International Relations, Nitte Deemed to be University, who has been practicing yoga for more than 45 years and Nhehern Acharya, III year Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy, gold medal winner for Artistic Display Yoga Competition for 2 consecutive years (Malaysia and Argentina) organised by International Yoga Federation were felicitated on this occasion.

 

Nitte Deemed to be University NSS wing organised the International Yoga Day celebration in K S Hegde Hospital Campus. Dr Alka Kulkarni in her welcome address gave an overview of the significance of this day and how our Prime Minister Narendra Modi took an active lead to promote yoga at the international level.

 

Staff and students attended the programme and performed yoga under the guidance of Rashmitha, Yoga instructor, NIPT. Dr P S Prakash, Dean, K S Hegde Medical Academy rendered the vote of thanks. Heads of the constituent institutions of Nitte Deemed to be University Dr Dhanesh, principal NIPT, Dr J P Shetty, Registrar of KSHEMA, Dr Mitra Hegde, vice dean, ABSMIDS, Dr Vinod Arhana, director, NIA, Raviraj Vittal, director, NICO, NSS co-ordinator  Dr Sumalatha R Shetty, NSS programme officers attended this function.
