Bantwal: City-bred students of Mangaluru explore nature at Greenwood Farms, Nelligudde

Bantwal, 24 May 2018: How is the milk sourced from farms…? How is rice find way into platter from paddy fields..? How the vegetables are grown..? Such kinds of many questions were filled in the minds of children from city. These children who were eager to find answers arrived at Greenwood Farms, Nelligudde, near here, to spend a day amidst lush greenery on Wednesday, May 23.

 

The children living in city arrived at Nelligudde, under 6-day summer camp organized by Mangaluru-based Chintana Balaga, to experience rural living and learn many aspects of eco-environment.

 

 

The theater director Mounesh Vishwakarma held games, singing, stories and other activities on personality development and environment during the morning session. The children ventured out into palm grove, areca and vegetable plantations at noon to find pleasant weather than AC comfort. A few boys tried to climb areca tree.

 

The environmentalist Arvind explained the nature of trees, how the cocoa fruit is used in making chocolates, how the rice is grown in paddy field etc. They have also seen all varieties of vegetables grown in the farms.

 

After the lunch, they hurried to the cow pen, where the farmhand explained how they milk the cows, while Ratnamma milked, heated the milk and gave them the hot milk to savor.

 

Later, Arvind has taken them to the tour of birds and shared the info about their species, how do they build their nest, laying/hatching eggs, and why one need to love birds.

 

The journalist and sports columnist Jagadischandra Anchan also helped them in their quest to know nature.

 

Chintana Balaga president Ismail, Sukesh Shetty, Premanat Marne, Sandhya Premanat and others led the students.
