Udupi: Budget is indicator of national development – Dr Padmanabha Bhat

Udupi, 13 Mar 2018: Budget is not just an account of income and expenditure or taxes. It’s the indicator of national development. It’s the economic policy of government set by political basis. It’s the proof of government on the concerns of its people and development. At this backdrop, it’s essential to analyze the budget, said Dr S Padmanabha Bhat, head of department of political science.
Dr Bhat was the chief guest delivering a talk on Budget-2018-19 that was organized by St Mary’s College, Shirva, near here, on Monday, March 12, for M Com students.
In his presidential address, St Mary’s College principal Professor Rajan V N said, ‘Budget is evaluation of governance that reflects the aspiration of people. It needs further emphasis on higher education.’
Professor Lokeshnat B, commerce lecturer of Kaup Government College said that Budget has many developmental aspects but lacks support for farming.
Professor Hyder Ali of Government College, Bantwal and Mangaluru-based chartered accountant Devicharan analyzed the finer points of Budget and attended the question-anser session with students. He also said, ‘The budget should been concerned with middle income groups by maintaining balance between farming and industry.
Head of department M Com Professor Jagdish welcomed the gathering and proposed vote of thanks. Professor Sharmila compered the programme.
