Mangaluru: Ramakrishna Mission’s Swacchata Abhiyan reaches 11th stage

Mangaluru, 14 Jan 2018: Ramakrishna Mission, here carried out Swacchata Abhiyan at PVS Circle, Kodialbail, here, on Sunday, January 14.

 

It was flagged off by Ramesh Rao, secretary of Mangalore Seniors Association and B Ganapathi Bhat of Besant College to the accompaniment of prayers. Swami Jitakamananda, secretary of Ramakrishna Mission, Bro Shivakumar, Subraya Nayak and nearly 200 active volunteers participated in the cleanliness drive.

 

 

Cleanliness: NSS students of Beasnt College under the guidance of Andrew Rodrigues and Professor Amitha cleaned the roads and roadsides from PVS Circle to Karangalpady with brooms. Another group under Chetana Katiyar cleaned the roadside drains. Members of Nivedita Balaga under Usha Dinakar and Vasanthi Nayak helped in loading the accumulated garbage into tippers. Young students of KPT cleaned the compound walls and surrounding areas off the weeds and overgrown grass.

 

Painting Bus Shelter: Bus Shelter in Kodialbail was neglected and public were hesitant to use it due to poor maintenance. Realizing this, volunteers of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan cleaned the shelter of all posters and advertisements and cleaned the roof of the shelter with water and painted the shelter giving a face lift. Rajeshwari Kodikal, Sudhir Kokradi and members of Hindu Warriors put in their dedicated efforts for more than 2 hours.

 

Repairing footpath: Footpath in front of Social Welfare department office was dilapidated and there was danger of pedestrians fling into the drain. Hence volunteers brought about 10 stone slabs and repaired the footpath and the adjoining drains were cleaned and covered with slabs. Dilraj Alva guided the volunteers with the help of Sandeep Kumar Taranath and friends of Kumar Gym.

 

Cleaning of Compound walls: The compound walls of Backward Girls hostel needed through cleaning. Volunteers cleaned the walls by washing with water and cleaned the footpath by removing heaps of garbage. They also visited all the shops in the area and urged them to help in keeping the area clean by not throwing garbage here and there. Compound walls were repainted. In coming days, the walls will be painted with art work creating awareness among the onlookers.

 

Shubhoday Alva, Suresh Shetty and Umanath Kotekar coordinated the drive. P N Bhat, Japanese citizen Yoko, Rakshith K P R, Rajendra D S and others actively participated in the drive. All the volunteers were served with tiffin in Lakshmi Narayani temple.
