Release of Sanjay Leela Bansali’s ’Padmavati’ voluntarily deferred

Mumbai, 19 Nov 2017: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmavati, starring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer singh, has been controversy’s child since its posters and trailers have been coming out.

 

On Sunday afternoon, the film’s producer and distributors told PTI announced that Padmavati has been "voluntarily deferred, reported PTI. The scheduled release date of December 1 now stands deferred. The makers have also announced that they will announce the new release date after getting the "requisite clearances".

Padmavati has been in the eye of the storm ever since protests claiming that the film distort history have refused to die down. Threats to behead Sanjay Leela Bhansali and chop off Deepika Padukone’s nose have also been made by fringe outfits. Among the protesting groups are the Rajput Karni Sena. Protesting groups claim that the film has shown a relationship between Rani Padmavati and ruler Alauddin Khilji, portrayed by Ranveer Singh. The film’s director and actors have both clarified though that there are no such relationships are portrayed in the film.

 

The Karni Sena had called for a nationwide bandh on December 1 to protest the film’s release, while Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje wrote to the Centre to make changes to the film before release to avoid hurting sentiments.

 

Recently, Mirror reported that Padmavati was rejected by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) over an "incomplete" application. Throughout this controversy, Deepika Padukone has refused to be bowed down by threats, stating that fear is "not an emotion she has ever identified with".
