Udupi/M’Belle: Bishop Gerald Lobo pays official visit to St. Lawrence Educational Institutions

Udupi/M’Belle, 05 June 2017: Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese and President of Catholic Education Society of Udupi(CESU) who was on a Pastoral Visit to St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle from Saturday, 3 June to Monday, 5 June 2017, paid official visit to St. Lawrence Educational Institutions on Monday, 5 June 2017 from 9.30 am to 12 noon.

 

Along with Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions, Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, Assistant Parish Priest and Vincent Fernandes, Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Bishop Gerald Lobo first paid an official visit to St. Lawrence English Medium High School.

 

Following the prayer by the students, Mrs. Veera Fernandes, Headmistress of the school welcomed the Bishop and other guests and briefly presented the achievements of the school since its inception. He pointed out that since the last seven years the SSLC results have been cent percent.

 

The Bishop and the dignitaries on the dais lighted the lamp on the stage symbolizing how the light of education drives away the darkness of ignorance.

 

 

Addressing the students, Bishop Gerald Lobo spoke about the vision of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, that of ‘Clean India’ and pointed out that cleanliness should begin with ‘me’, that is, an individual, family, neighbourhood and wider areas. He also spoke about the importance to preserve, protect and promote environment and made an appeal to the students to plant and nurture at least one plant each, save water and electricity.

 

In his brief message, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas complimented the teachers and the students for the excellent results in the SSLC consecutively for the last seven years.

 

Next, Bishop Gerald Lobo paid a brief visit to St. Lawrence Computer Education Centre. Thereafter, he visited the Church Aided Higher Primary School. Sr. Irene Viegas, Headmistress of the school welcomed  the Bishop and other guests.

 

 

Speaking to the little children, Bishop Gerald Lobo reminded them about the advice of the former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam to the little children to have big dreams. He also reminded about the parable of three monkeys quoted by Mahatma Gandhi with the moral of not to see evil, not to hear evil and not to speak evil.

 

The final visit of the Bishop was to St. Lawrence Composite PU College. Naveen Correa, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College welcomed the Bishop and the guests. He also presented the excellent results of the PUC and SSLC classes.

 

 

Addressing the PUC and High School students, the Bishop congratulated the teaching staff and the students for their encouraging results. Speaking further, Bishop Gerald Lobo said that in order to achieve success in life, the students should have an aim as was pointed out by the former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam. He also emphasized on the need to observe cleanliness, preserve, protect and promote environment, to give up the use of plastic, save water and electricity and plant saplings.

 

Fr. Clement Mascarenhas appreciated the hard work of the teachers and the students in acquiring excellent results both at the PUC and SSLC. He pointed out that Ashish Alva has secured first position in St. Lawrence PU College and eighth rank in the Commerce Faculty in the state.

 

Mrs. Leena D’Silva, Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School proposed the vote of thanks.
