Bishop Gerald handed over NYC cross to Mangaluru Diocese

Udupi, 11 Dec 2016: The National Youth Convention Cross arrived at the end of the scheduled visit in Udupi Diocese arrived from Mount Rosary Church to Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur near here on Sunday, 11th December, 2016.
The NYC Holy Cross brought from Mount Rosary church with decorated open van proceeded towards Milagres Church with large number of ICYM members of Udupi Diocese. The NYC Holy Cross was first received with by Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo Rector and Vicar of Milagres Cathedral followed by other priests at the entrance of the main gate of the cathedral by garlanding the Holy Cross. Meanwhile Roshan D’ Souza President of ICYM Milagres Cathedral, Royton D’souza President of ICYM, Kallianpur Deanery, Rev Fr. Edwin D’Souza Director of Youth, Diocese of Udupi and Loyal D’Souza President of ICYM Diocese of Udupi.
The Eucharist mass concelebrated by Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi Diocese and offered the mass to the youths.
In his homily Rev Fr. Albert Crasta Director of Kundapur Deanery pointed out the importance of Holy Cross. In contemporary Christianity, the crucifix is a symbol of atonement and reminds Christians of God’s love in sacrificing his own son for humanity. The significance of Cross is symbol of triumph of good. The youths should remember that the sign of Cross draws down upon us divine power and at the same time drives away all evil influences which come from the demons.
After the Eucharistic mass a special prayer conducted by the youths itself. At the end Bishop of Udupi Diocese handed over the NYC Cross to Rev Fr. Ronald D’souza Director of ICYM, Mangaluru Diocese and Jackson Eric D’ Costa President of Mangaluru Diocese. Large numbers of both the dioceses ICYM members were present in the Eucharistic mass as well as NYC Holy Cross handing over ceremony.
After the handing over ceremony, lunch was served to all the participants on the occasion of handing over NYC Cross to Mangaluru diocese. The national level Youth Convention to be held on 18th to 22nd January 2017 at the St. Joseph’s Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru.
