Moodbidri, 15 January 2011: Holy Rosary Church Alangar will be celebrating Infant Jesus Feast on Sunday, 16 January 2011 in the church ground. The Bishop of Allahabad, Most Rev. Dr. Isidore Fernandes will be the main celebrant. Preparatory Novena in honour Infant Jesus has already started from 7 January. Rev Fr Andrew D’souza, Director of Mudipu Shrine conducted the novena and prayed for the families. The inaugural Novena was preached by Rev Fr George Santhumayor OCD, Director of Carmel Hill Mangalore. Fr George Santhumayor preached about bearing witness to Jesus Christ quoting the example of late Archbishop Romero who was shot dead while celebrating mass. He said that we too must be ready to suffer for the sake of justice and for the values of the kingdom of God. A large number of intentions were prayed during the adoration that preceded the mass.
The second day of the Novena was preached by Rev Fr Andrew Dsouza the director of Blessed Joseph Vaz Shrine Mudipu-Mangalore. He said that there is no time for prayer in our families and our families are losing value. Family is the gift of God. Don’t count your salary and property they are momentary and if God has no place in families everything is vain. Holy trinity is the foundation of our families. He also said that people recognize children through their parents. Good families bring up good children.
Third day of the Novena was conducted by Rev Fr Boniface Pinto, Director DBCLC, Mangalajyoti- Mangalore. He preached on the theme of dedicated life. Baptism is the foundation of every mission. God the Father intends that no one should be destroyed. If we have the will everything is possible. God chooses different people in different times and guides them. A dedicated person must have the earnest desire and love for the mission. We are the hands and feet of Jesus. Jesus worked with the downtrodden and the forbidden. He further said that the church is in need of vocations to carry out His work.
Fourth day of the Novena was preached by Rev Fr Harold Pereira, the parish priest of Paladka church. On the theme ‘Jesus loves the children’, Fr Harold said that the children are the gift of God. He asked the parents to be a role model for their children and bring them up in an environment of love. To solve disputes with the neighbours and not to involve the children in them. He also asked the parents to teach them the virtue of sharing; correct the children and never to make negative remarks and not do the comparisons between them.
On the fifth day, the Novena service was conducted by Rev Fr Franklin D’Souza, Youth Director of the Karnataka region The theme of the day was ‘Jesus Loves the Youth’. He said that we have many hindrances when we come near Jesus. When someone accepts Jesus as his master he gets healed of his ailments. We all need to ask a question whether we love or do we betray him? It is better to be a witness than to get destroyed. The good news of our Lord calls us to get healed. Even Satan addressed Jesus and said “You are the holy one of God”. It is the duty of the parents to bring up their children in the love of God. Things of the world look beautiful but they are illusionary.
On sixth day, Rev Fr Assisi Rebello the parish priest of Hospet Church conducted the Novena. Fr. Assisi preached on the ‘dignity of labour’. He said that every work is good. God himself has worked. Jesus was born and brought up in a carpenter’s family. Jesus worked as the carpenter for his livelihood. Hence, God has sanctified every kind of work. Let us work sincerely and for the glory of God.
A large number of devotees have been participating in the Novena every day. The parish priest of Alangar, Rev Fr Basil Vas and the Parish Pastoral Council welcomes devotees to celebrate the Infant Jesus Feast on Sunday, 16 January 2011 at 4.30 pm.
