Kaup, 21 November 2010: As the elections to the Zilla and Taluka Panchayats are scheduled to be held in the month of December 2010, the Kaup Congress Committee organised an impressive rally in the Kaup township on Sunday, 21 November 2010 at 3.30 pm to infuse new life and galvanise the Congress Workers from the Kaup Block so that they can face the coming local bodies elections in a united manner and score victories in these elections. The rally was inaugurated by B.L. Shanker-former Chairman of the State Legislative Council and the key-note address was delivered by V.S. Ugrappa-former Leaders of Opposition in the State Legislative Council.

Prior to the inauguration and key-note address, Gangadhar Suvarna-President of the Kaup Block Congress Committee in his introductory address welcomed the guests on the dais with flowers. In a hard hitting key-note speech, V.S. Ugrappa lashed out at the Karnataka State Government headed by B.S. Yeddyurappa highlighting the scams at the state level in which he claimed that not only the Chief Minister himself along with his family members, the Reddy Brothers and Ms. Shobha Karandjale have been widely involved, but also the entire Council of Ministers have been involved in various corrupt activities. He compared the Council of Ministers headed by B.S. Yeddyuraappa to the story of ‘Alibaba and Forty Thieves’. He further said that the Central Government has been giving a lot of financial aid to the State Government for rural development. However, the government has been neglecting the weaker sections, minorities and marginalised sections of the society.

Making an appeal to the Congress Workers, V.S. Ugrappa said that time has come to dump this corrupt BJP government and bring back the Congress in the State of Karnataka. As a preliminary step, he said that in the forthcoming Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections they should work hard and united and capture all the seats in these local bodies.

On this occasion, V.S. Ugrappa honoured Neelanand Naik, who was conferred Best Teacher Award at the District level, Preetham Alva, son of Henry and Philomena Benedicta Alva of Moodubelle, studying in Third Year LLB at Vaikunta Baliga Law College at Kunjibettu, Manipal for being elected as the Secretary of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) of the Mangalore University jurisdiction and Chetana B. Amin, the Best Outgoing Student of PPC College, Udupi who was also conferred Rajya Prashasthi for drawing.

The participants in the rally from Moodubelle had a unique mobilisation. At around 1.30 pm the Congress Workers gathered at the Moodubelle town with their bikes and vehicles. Vasant V. Salian, the former minister in the Karnataka State Government formally flagged off the rally by handing over the flags to Mrs. Jacintha Aranha-President of the Belle Grama Panchayat and A.G. D’Souza-president of the Local congress Committee of Belle. The other Congress leaders present at the starting point included, Mrs. Sujata Suvarna-Vice President of the Belle Grama Panchayat, Shivaram Salian-President of the Local Congress Committee of Kattingeri, John Sequeria- President of the Local Congress Committee of Padubelle, Henry Alva-Chief Secretary of the Local Congress Committee of Belle-Kattingeri and Padubelle, Ganesh Nayak-Chief Secretary of the Local Congress Committee of Belle and Kurkal Grama Panchayat, Mrs. Helen Mendonca, Vikas Shetty and Harish Shetty-members of the Belle Grama Panchayat, Mrs. Helen D’Souza-President of the Jyothi mahila Mandal, Edmeru, Preetham Alva- Secretary NSUI, Mangalore University and many others.

After the rally was flagged off, the Congress Workers proceeded to Padubelle and from there to BC Road and Shirva where they were joined by the Congress Workers from Shirva and Kuthyar Grama Panchayat. Thereafter, the rally was taken to Majoor village where some more Congress Workers joined the group and eventually reached the Kaup Block Congress Committee Headquarters at Kaup where the workers met V.S. Ugrappa and Gopala Poojary-President of the District Congress Committee of Udupi and proceeded to the venue of the rally.

Hemphil Dubai; People are galvanised to show that they are fedup with ongoing corruption and to exhibit that they are awake and has a responsible job to bring a change, not jobless like you! Congratulate them instead of a wise critic. Take a break.

Somewhat i too agree with Hemphil here. What congress has done to the country/state over 50 years of ruling? Congress just woke up when they got a feeling that coming of BJP into power might be the end of their chance to come to power in the state again? Every politician does what suits best to him, not the aam janta ...

Dear Ronald and Manoj i too agree with Mr Hemphil , why the Anukudra dam is incomptetee ? why the Belle Panchyat not given NOC to Manasa Pamboor ?why the degree moved from Moodbelle to some oter place ?and don't you think congress local leaders are not sleeping ?
Ronald Sabi, Moodubelle Wed, November-24-2010, 8:37
Hempil Dubai, I do not agree with your repeated comments on a particular political party people. Your comments may be applicable to other political parties too. Personal attack is not healthy in village level or any level. Why not followers of other political parties advice ICYM (if they have any). Prior to that it is very important to know whether young sacred organizations like ICYM need politicians advice!? People are free to follow any political party. It is their personal choice! I feel there is nothing wrong in people participating in Congress rally. May be people are seeking a change of political leadership and coming out in large number. Do not get upset about it! My personal opinion is –Do not use such forums and village for harvesting instigating political rivalry. This may culminate series of unhealthy events. Reason being, Citizens of Moodubelle are not sleepy, they are vibrant and intelligent. People of all political parties and all religions are leading a cordial and friendly life. People are compassionate. There are plenty daily and evening news papers and forums to create unrest professionally. Why we need a change in the beauty and integrity of general day today life in our home town? Everyone knows no political party today is the best! Leave it to the secret ballet.

Dear Hemphil Dubai, do not go for personal accusations. Instead of suggesting others why can t you do some social work. Who are you to instruct others what to do and what not to do. Everyone is having his / her own political and ideological affiliations which is non of your business. Better you try to convince your Yeddy and Reddys to resign from theirs post if your party is having any kind of shame.
