Bangalore, 24 November 2010: A clear threat that B S Yeddyurappa’s exit would bring down the first ever BJP government in the south in the event of his being axed won the day for the chief minister, forcing the party high command to continue with him, according to party sources.
Yeddyurappa maintained a defiant posture with the party’s top brass who had reportedly asked him to put in his papers, to save the embarrassment to the party caused by his alleged acts of nepotism, favouritism and land scams, the sources said. The campaign launched by BJP MPs favouring continuance of Yeddyurappa was another factor that forced the party to accept his continuance.
Yeddyurappa also reportedly told the party leadership that there can be no successor to him and he has to continue.
