Udupi: Somashekar Banavasi, asst director of Udupi tourism passes away due to Covid

Udupi, 09 Jun 2021:  Somashekar Banavasi, assistant director of tourism department of Udupi district passed away owing to Covid at a hospital in Mangaluru on Monday, June 7.

 

Somashekar hailed from Banavasi in Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka and was living with his family in Dakshina Kannada.

 

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and one son.

 

He had taken charge as assistant director of tourism department of Udupi district on November 24, 2020.  He strived to get Blue Flag - international recognition for Padubidri beach.

 

Earlier, he served as 1st grade assistant at tourism department of Dakshina Kannada district and was promoted as assistant director of Udupi.

 

He worked as journalist before joining government service.

 

‘Somashekar was honest officer and my colleague in promoting tourism across Udupi district.  We both worked in developing tourism spots in the district.  It’s a great loss for the tourism sector and for the district.  RIP,’ Udupi DC J Jagadisha.
