Mangaluru, 25 Jan: Horticulture department has been successfully organizing several programmes for the people to take keen interest in farming and plantation, said Mangaluru south MLA Vedavyas Kamat.
MLA Kamat was speaking after inaugurating fruits and flower exhibition that was organized at Kadri Park, here on Friday, January 24. It was jointly organized by horticulture department, ZP, district administration, Kadri Park development committee, Siri Plantations® Mangaluru and other departments.
The horticulture department is promoting bee keeping, mushroom farming and plantations to involve the people including city folks to take up developing backyards. They are focussing on farming and plantations, MLA said. He hoped more people come visiting the two-day fruits and flower exhibition.
There are 134 stalls that are set up by government departments and private plantations, nurseries, also has exhibition of plantation machineries that can be bought.
The exhibition has varieties of flowers developed by horticulture department at their nurseries, backyard garden, saplings/seeds of vegetable crops, different varieties of honey, value-added products and sale, nursery plants etc.
DK DC Sindhu B Rupesh, DK ZP CEO Dr Selvamani R, plantations joint director Shakil Ahmed, Mysuru plantations joint director Nagaraj H M, Kadri corporator Shakil Kava and others were present.
