Mangaluru, 06 Oct: Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sasikant Sentil instructed Mangaluru civic officials to award rentals for the farmlands of peasants that are likely to be inundated owing to storing water up to 6 meter in the new vented dam that was constructed across Netravati River at Thumbay, Bantwal.
The order was issued by DC Sasikant during farmers meet held at the district quarter on October 3. Meanwhile, the farmers struggle Committee president M Subramanya Bhat alleged that the officials are not pursuing the issue seriously.
As per the recommendations of Central Water Commission, the adequate compensation to be issued to farmers whose farmlands are likely to be inundated after the survey adding 1 meter as provision and also compensate the farmers in case they had grown crops.
DC also advised the civic officials to include the information of farmers whose farmlands were not covered in already prepared list.
ADC Kumar, Mangaluru assistant municipal commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, municipal commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, special land acquisition officer Gayatri, M Subramanya Bhat, N K Iddinabba, Bantwal town councilor P Ramakrishna Alva, John Lobo and others were present.
