Bantwal, 09 Jan 2018: Karnataka state Dalit Mahasabha staged a protest in front of Mini Vidhan Souda, B C Road, here, on Monday, January 8, against revision of Indian Constitution and constitutional abuses.
Addressing the protesters, Dalit leader Banuchandra Krishnapura said, ‘Indian Constitution is threatened by a few rogue politicians who want to change the constitution that will jeopardize the second largest democracy in India.’
He also said that there have been many amendments to Indian Constitution in the past, but changing the constitutions is condemnable.
Dalit were living in fear in the past, while in the recent past, Muslims and other community are supporting them to bolster their struggle, said Banuchandra. He also cautioned if the atrocities on Dalit continue; they would opt for mass conversion.
SDPI leader Hanif Khan Kodaje, CPI (M) general secretary Ramanna Vittal, ZP members Shekar Kukkedy, B Padmashekar Jain and Vasanti Chandappa, TP vice president B M Abbas Ali, Bantwal taluk legalizing encroachment Committee president Mayilappa Salian, TP member Mallika Shetty, municipal steering Committee president B Vasu Poojary, Karnataka Cashew Development Board member Jagdish Koila, Munish Ali, Gangadhar, Mohammed Iqbal Goodinabali, Isaac Talapady, Raja Pallamajal, Rajeev Kakkepadav, Abubbakker Ammunje and others were present.
Earlier, protest rally was held from Kaikamba Welcome arch to Mini Vidhan Souda.
