DHNS

Udupi, 29 June 2010: Amidst the confusion over the ‘missing’ of 2 kg gold biscuits worth Rs 36 lakh, which was sent as a parcel in a private bus to Udupi based jeweller, the parcel has reached the jeweller in another private bus after five days of its dispatch, even when the Bangalore police registered a theft case and were investigating.

It is said that Rajashri Jewellers of Olakadu in Udupi had ordered for 20 gold biscuits from Micro International in Bangalore. The Micro International had sent the parcel of gold biscuits in Durgamba bus on June 23. However, when they received the parcel, they found only stones inside the parcel on June 24. Immediately, they informed Micro International. Accordingly, a case was registered at Sheshadripuram police station. In fact, a case was also registered against a person who undertakes gold biscuit business on Udupi-Bangalore route on suspicious ground. In the meantime, fearing the arrest, the person who had reportedly stolen the biscuits, sent the parcel to Rajashri Jewellers in Vishal Travels by keeping two gold bisuits with himself. The parcel reached the jeweller on June 28 and the police were informed about the same.

Amidst all the confusion, a team of police from Sheshadripuram and Central Excise Inspector Rajesh arrived at Udupi on Tuesday and interrogated Vishal Travels office and also visited Rajashri Jewellers.

Speaking to presspersons, Rajesh said: “We need to verify whether the gold biscuits were real or not along with the documents on the purchase of the biscuits.”  Rajashri Jewellers Chief Suresh Shet said: “We have purchased the biscuits by paying money. We have all documents for the purchase made.” The gold biscuits have been taken away by the Bangalore police for investigation.
