Udupi, 22 Apr 2013: I have no objections to set up mega industries at the limits of Kaup legislative assembly constituency. Meanwhile, it’s advisable to set up Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to facilitate setting up of mega industries. If I am elected in the upcoming assembly elections, I would work in this regard, said Vinay Kumar Sorake, Congress candidate contesting from Kaup legislative assembly constituency.
Addressing the media persons during a press meet held here on Thursday April 18, Vinay Kumar said that 2,500 acre has been notified in the limits of Kaup legislative assembly constituency, in order to set up heavy industries that will not be allowed at the cost of people and eco-environment. The court hearings are going on criminal case registered on him during the struggle against Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), which he said was the reward for addressing the grievances of local farmers’ fraternity, said Vinay Kumar.
‘I personally don’t oppose setting up of thermal power plant in the limits of Kaup legislative assembly constituency, which should not be imposed upon the people. The locals should be taken into confidence and locals should get employment opportunity,’ said Vinay Kumar.
Congress leaders Sarasu Bangera, B Narasimhamurti, Keshav Kotian, Habeeb Ali and others were present at the press meet.
‘I have not sought ticket to contest the upcoming assembly elections from Kaup legislative constituency. I did not take active role in people’s representative since the past 8 years. I have asked Congress high command Sonia Gandhi to allow me to contest in either parliamentary or assembly elections. I have been issued ticket to contest the elections from Kaup on their own,’ clarified Vinay Kumar to those who expressed displeasure over the issue.
