Mangalore, 12 February 2011: On a note of relief to those who want to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Sri Ram Sene leader Pramod Mutalik has assured that Sri Ram Sene will neither take the video footages of the couple and publish it on You Tube on Valentine’s Day nor will it cause any nuisance to the public.

Speaking with the media persons in an interaction programme on Valentine’s Day and Human Rights organised by the Journalists Study Centre at Mangalore Business School near Bunts Hostel on Saturday, Mutalik said Sri Ram Sene has been campaigning against Valentines Day this season by distributing pamphlets to the schools, colleges and the public. “We have not only distributed pamphlets, but also have sent request letters to the greeting card shop owners and the restaurant/pubs to co-operate with us by not entertaining the youth to celebrate Valentine’s Day,” he said.

He stated that Sri Ram Sene does not oppose the lovers, but opposes the celebration of Valentine’s Day as the celebration boosts drug and sex mafia in the nation. Valentine’s Day has been banned in Russia where Valentine was born, but Indians celebrate the Day succumbing to the capitalist mentality, said Mutalik.

Meanwhile, he opposed the State government’s stand of protecting the lovers on February 14. When asked what he would do if he finds a couple roaming together on Valentine’s Day, he said he would just bless them.

Sene responsible

DYFI District President Muneer Katipalla held Sri Ram Sene responsible for making Valentine’s Day popular in the State. With the kind of hype created by Sene through its mischievous activities, even the people who were unaware of V-Day are now aware of it, he alleged.

Mohammad Kunhi from Jammat-e-Islam Hind said, the organisation opposes the Valentine’s Day celebration. But he dismissed the idea of bringing youth under control by thrashing them.

“We can’t forcefully stop the youth from celebrating Valentine’s Day who break the social norms, but have to bring the change through public awareness campaign,” said Mohd Kunhi.
