Mangaluru, 18 Jun 2020: The state high court has issued stay order against the ongoing construction of vegetables and meat market in the football stadium at Nehru Maidan in the city.

These shops are being built to temporarily accommodate retail sellers affected by the proposed demolition and reconstruction of the central market building.

Eleven citizens including Vijay Suvarna, Mohammed Hussain, and Anthony Sebastian Fernandes, had filed public interest litigation in the state high court, challenging the above construction. They are of the opinion that the constructions are illegal.

When the litigation came up for hearing before a division bench of the high court comprising Chief Justice A S Oka and Justice Nataraj on Wednesday, the bench issued stay order.
