Mangaluru, 16 Jul: There has been a spurt in Dengue cases in Dakshina Kannada district in the recent past with over 400 persons suffering from fever undergoing Dengue test in the past one week. Of them 128 have been confirmed as Dengue cases.

The intermittent rain and sunshine is said to be the reason for the rising cases of Dengue with many patients undergoing treatment in private as well as government hospitals.

In Mangaluru, highest cases of Dengue are reported from Jeppu, Gujjarakere, Kannur and Arekerebailu areas. Health officials have visited these places to ensure adequate precautionary measures.

The Health Department has been asked to ensure there are no mosquito breeding places and everyone has been asked to maintain cleanliness and prevent stagnation of water. Officials have also been asked to fine those who fail to maintain cleanliness, the DC has said.
