New Delhi, 19 Oct 2017: The Darul Uloom Deoband in Uttar Pradesh issued a bizarre fatwa on Thursday, banning Muslim women from posting pictures on social media.

The Deoband is said to have announced that Muslim women should not post their pictures on Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter.

Darul Ifta, the fatwa-issuing authority of the seminary, termed all these activities as "un-Islamic" and asked Muslim women to refrain from them.

The fatwa came in response to a query by a Muslim man asking if his wife can post and upload her pictures on social media handles.

Darul Iftaa had issued another fatwa a few days ago that banned women from plucking, trimming, shaping their eyebrows and cutting hair.

The Darul Uloom is the largest seminary in India.
