Abu Dhabi, 13 June 2010: A fire broke out in a building in the tourist club area in Abu Dhabi on Sunday morning, officials told Gulf News.

Police have launched an investigation into what caused the fire, which witnesses said started at around 11am at a visibly ageing building opposite Abu Dhabi Mall, close to the Kia Motors Building.

The fire appeared to have erupted on the sixth floor of an 11-storey building and has spread to the seventh and eighth floors.

A police officer at the scene said residents ran to the top floor of the building for safety.

Firefighters acted quickly to put out the fire and there were no reports of any injuries.
