Mangalore, 26 Jul 2014: The city that has been increasingly urbanized need to develop more landscape. The civic body has embarked on Green City project in this regard, said mayor Mahabala Marla.
The mayor Mahabala was speaking after offering motion for Vanamahotsav in front of Patrika Bhavan, Lady Hill, here on Friday July 25. It was organized at the aegis of Dakshina Kannada working journalists’ Association, Mangalore Press Club, Mangalore range forest department.
Mahabala further said that the civic body has separate fund to develop parks and public playgrounds. It has embarked on Green Mangalore project in collaboration with forests and plantation department, social welfare and voluntary organizations. Under the project, saplings will be planted in all available spaces across the city. An experts Committee has been formed to effectively implement this project. The Committee will advise the type of saplings ideal for a specific ward, said mayor Mahabala.
Mangalore range chief conservator of forests Dr Sanjay Bijoor, deputy conservator of forests O Palayya, assistant conservator of forests Abbas, Mangalore zone forest officer Clifford Lobo, civic environment division engineer V Madhu were the chief guests present.
Mangalore Press Club president Ramakrishna R was present.
Dakshina Kannada working journalists Association president P B Harish Rai welcomed the gathering. The chief secretary Srinivas Indaje proposed vote of thanks.
