Mangalore, 11 Jul 2014: The city unit of the Dalit Sangarsha Samiti (DSS) staged a protest in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner, here on Thursday July 10, alleging the state developmental projects are unfriendly to Dalits.
Addressing the protesters, DSS district convener Ashok Konchadi expressed his disappointment regarding the denial of the government’s schemes to the members of the Dalih community.
Ashok said, ‘We are living on state-owned lands across the city since several years. Despite this, we are denied of title deeds for our dwellings. The provision made under Sec 94 C for the effect of legalization of encroached state-owned lands is only applicable to rural areas and not for city limits. Its biased against Dalits living in state-owned lands across city,’ said Ashok.
‘The land reserved for the Ambedkar Bhavan in Derebail village here has been encroached upon by private people. The DK district-in-charge minister who has promised to build the Ambedkar Bhavan in January 2014 is not receiving the phone. CM Siddaramaiah seems to announce the big projects to dalit community and does not want the community to improve. He has to realize that he is reigning because of our votes and if the same trend continues then we will teach a lesson to Congress party in the coming assembly elections.’
DSS (Bheemavada) district Ramesh Kotian, vice president Rohit Ullal, Sudhakar Boloor and others were present on the occasion.
