Mangalore, Jun 19, 2014 : Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel here on Thursday June 19 advised the district administration to take all the measures that are essential as the coast along Arabian Sea has intensified sea erosion at the onset of monsoon.
The district officers briefed MP Nalin that 40 houses and 3 sheds were damaged due to sea erosion in Ullal and 20 houses were damaged in Panambur.
Chandrashekar Ucchil expressed his displeasure that the district administration has awarded Rs 12,600 as compensation to a victim of sea erosion in Ucchila at the limits of Ullal town panchayat, here whose house was washed away in huge tidal waves.
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that the district administration has authority to award Rs 50,000 as compensation to the victim of ’pakka’ house collapse and Rs 15,000 for partial damage to dwelling quarter.
MP Nalin instructed public utility provider Mescom to keep tab on tragedies that are likely to be caused by live worn out electric cables lying on the ground.
The disaster preparedness in case of floods, supplying drinking water and food are also priority, said MP Nalin.
