Mangalore, 4 Feb 2014: Dakshina Kannada (DK) district has several tourists’ hotspots, while in order to develop infrastructure facilities on many tourists spots that are hitherto unknown because they are located on coast. A proposal has been forwarded to state administration to undertake 36 development works among them to develop access roads to temples, hanging-bridge; at an estimated cost of Rs 4,025.98 lac; out of which Rs 1,095.77 has already been released by the state administration, said DK district tourism development Committee chairman Deputy Commissioner (DC) A B Ibrahim.
DC Ibrahim was speaking during the progress review meeting of district tourism Committee held at district headquarter, here on Tuesday February 4.
Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo instructed the tourism officers to begin the laying of hanging-bridge between picturesque strip of Tannirbavi and Sultan Battery along the coast of Arabian Sea. He also said that the issue has been taken up with PWD and tourism minister to release the necessary funds, said MLA Lobo.
The state tourism assistant director Ajit Jitendranat said that Rs 73.25 lac has been released to develop tourism facilities at Panamboor Beach, Rs 76.80 lac released to develop Tannirbavi Beach, Rs 76.80 lac released to develop infrastructure facilities at Ullal – Someshwar Beach, Rs 100 lac released to erect hanging-bridge linking Tannirbavi with Sultan Battery, Rs 200 released to build Yatri Nivas (Tourists’ Home) at Venoor and Yatri Nivas has been inaugurated already. Rs 45 lac has been released to develop tourism facilities at Kadri temple, here, Rs 74.11 lac has been released to develop tourism facilities at Subramanya temple, Kukke. The total amount released so far was Rs 1,095.77 lac in this regard, said Jitendranat.
Out of 36 works 14 were already completed and work should begin on 12 works, added Jitendranat.
The municipal commissioner Ajit Kumar Hegde, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dayanand K A was present on the occasion.
