Udupi, 19 Mar 2013: The provision will be made in the next budget to construct an indoor swimming pool in the city, said state youth services and sports department joint director Appacchu.
Appacchu was speaking after laying foundation for laying synthetic track at Mahatma Gandhi district stadium, Ajjarakadu, here on Tuesday March 19.
The state government has already released Rs 3.80 crore for laying synthetic track that will be ready in four-month excluding monsoon season, added Appacchu.
Speaking on the occasion MLA Raghupati Bhat said that it was a long pending demand of athletes of Udupi district to have a synthetic track in city. The construction of sports hostel is under way at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore. A cricket ground will be developed on a plot that lies near to dumping yard at Beedinagudde, here at a cost of Rs 3.50 crore, said MLA Bhat.
The coconut and coir development Board chairperson Sheela K Shetty, ZP president Upendra Nayak, DC Dr M T Reju, international former athlete Rohit Kumar, the former town councilor Gokuldas Nayak, district athletic Association president Balakrishna Hegde were the chief guests of the occasion.
The district youth services and sports officer Sitanadi Vittal Shetty welcomed the gathering.
