Belman, 30 June 2012: Belman is one of the prime location of Karkalla district is currently is a center for all buses plying from Katpadi, Shirva, Belman from one side and Padubidri, Karkala as well Katill, Bajpe and Mangalore from the opposite side.
Due to widening of roads, the tall trees which were existing for more than hundred years have been felled and lying on the ground. The roads have practically become ponds and a great hindrance for traffic and public as if walking on a tight rope. Due to heavy rush of vehicles from all directions, bus stop has narrowed considerably. The smell in bus stand toilets is unbearable and unusable and hence the public using the nearby trees to urinate is a very common site. In the rainy season the urine is mixed with rain water and flows directly towards the bus stand and the complete area has become an open drainage. The mosquitos and flies are breeding on garbage heaps abundantly and has become a Malaria producing factory. The suggestion by an elderly person to conduct a month long Malaria camp at the bus stand is very significant.
Bus Stand is practically parking for two wheelers:
For those working in distance places like, Mangalore, Karkal, Mulky, Bajpe, park their two wheelers in front of the shops and leaving for jobs and returning only in the evening has become a big head-ache for the shoppers, businessmen as well as customers as it a big hindrance to conduct smooth business. It also leaves any area for the busses to stop or move freely. The public is demanding urgent action by Gram Panchayat to fix this problem as soon as possible.
Separate Parking Arrangement:
On creating of a separate Parking area two wheelers Mr. Shanker Kundar (Senior member of Gram Panchayat) has clarified that Gram Panchayat is taking action to avoid two wheeler parking on Monday as Monday Market being held on this day. The gram Panchayat has decided to put up a public notice not to park two wheelers on this day at least for the time being. The bus-stand toilet has water supply, a worker has been assigned to maintain the toilets and as all other bus-stop toilets, the public should pay Rs. 1 tax and should maintain the toilets he requested. However, the sick and old will not be charged for this service he clarified. He also requested public that if there are any problems and complaints should be brought to the notice of Gram Panchayat immediately.
