Kemmannu, 26 June 2012: A married woman is murdered in Gudyam, Kemmannu Grama on Monday. The woman Shakunthala Ashok Poojary (45) has been murdered in the bedroom by tying the churidar to the neck in mid day. Shakuntala had gone to her relatives house in Mumbai some days ago and had returned just on Monday. Her husband Ashok Poojary is working abroad and they began living in their new house just in the month of April. Originally they are from Badanidiyoor, recently they purchased the land in Gudyam, built the house and had the Grahapravesha in the month of April.
Since husband is working in the foreign country Shakuntala was financially sound, was living in the new house along with her two children. Daughter Akshita studying in PUC and son Akshay is studying in 5th standard. When daughter returned home from college as usual on Monday, the door was open, when she called her mother there was no reply, when she searched, she found her mother lying down on the floor and when she went near she saw her mother murdered, so she screamed and called their neighbours.
Who has killed and what is the reason, is not known. But since the ornaments were still on the dead body, on the outer look it can be assumed that this murder is not for the sake of money or gold ornaments. Shakuntala was wearing churidar and seemed had just come home minutes before the murder. Shakuntala’s body was lying down and could be seen that she had fought with the murderers. The blood on the face and neck area is clotted.
Though there are many houses in the neighbourehood, since it was the afternoon time and everyone were sleeping, hence the noise or scream were not heard say the neighbours. Also it is said that Shakuntala had gone to Bank. So if she had drawn money from the Bank, the culprits who saw this may have committed this murder, it may be suspected.
Malpe Police, finger print experts and Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat have visited the spot. Here in the nearby area about 15 years ago a youth had murdered an Christian woman for gold ornaments in a similar manner. The crime was proved and the murderer was given life sentence and he was recently released.
