Udupi, 25 January 2012: In the middle of the cry that the Taluk Panchayath does not get grants from the government, now the Taluk Panchayath is in a situation that the rupees 1 crore grant released may have to go back to the government without utilizing it. This shocking news became public as the Congress member Umesh Nayak discussed on this matter in the Taluk Panchayath meeting on Tuesday. The grant was released late, during the month of November.
To utilize this fund the Taluk Panchayath members have to prepare and submit the work proposal on the development works needs to be done in their areas. This proposal has to be approved by Jilla Panchayath. But as it is now end of January 2012 and some of the members have not yet submitted the work proposal. And in the proposal submitted by some other members, there are technical errors, hence those proposals were rejected and returned back from Jilla Panchayath, which are to be revised and resubmitted for approval. The work proposals submitted by the Senior experienced members only are approved.
The granted fund of rupees 1 crore has to be utilized before the end of March, but in the remaining 2 months it is impossible to use even 50% of this amount no matter how fast the work is done, this is a shame, regretted Umesh Nayak. Also, other Congress members Veronica Carnelio, Dr. Sunita and others also seconded in this matter.
President Devadas Hebbar tried to explain that most of the members are new and they do not have enough knowledge and experience on the work proposals, therefor the delay has taken place. But Umesh Nayak said that, it is more than one year now since they all became members, so they are not new and a special meeting could have been called to provide necessary information on the work proposals to them.
Finally, at the end of the meeting the President said that, the necessary information will be provided to the inexperienced members and arrangements will be made to submit the proposals today itself. During the previous meeting Udupi Tashildar was present and had resolved various tax department issues raised by the members. but during this meeting the Brahmavara Special Tashildar was not present in spite of the special invitation to attend the meeting, which angered among the members. President said that, since there are more other complaints on this Tashildar, the complaint will be sent to the Sub Divisional Officer of Kundapura.
On this occasion Divakara Hegde who was elected unanimously in the place of Shiriyara member upon his passing away, took oath conducted by Administrative Officer Manjunathayya. District Family Welfare and Health Officer briefed on the Grameena health plans. 14 young women who were trained under 2010 – 11 batch, were issued free sewing machines.
